Mexico City can be a surprisingly luxurious travel destination. Some exclusive areas, such as Polanco and Paseo de la Reforma, are known for their high-end restaurants, boutiques, and of course, many luxury hotels. In this post we’ll explore just a few of the best 5-star hotels in Mexico City (along with one famous 4-star hotel).
Camino Real Polanco

Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta designed this 5-star hotel for the 1968 Summer Olympics, with input from Luis Barragán. This vast place takes up one entire city block. It features museum-quality art by prominent artists. Mathias Goeritz created Mensajes (Messages), the perforated pink screen in front of the hotel. Goeritz made the sublime Abstracto en dorado (Abstract in Gold) in the lobby stairwell. He also did the monumental white Bosque de columnas (Forest of Columns) in the south garden courtyard. Rufino Tamayo painted the spectacular El hombre frente al infinito (Man in Front of Infinity) mural in the main lobby. Isamu Noguchi designed La fuente del eterno movimiento (The Fountain of Eternal Movement) in front of the hotel. And Lance Wyman created the hotel’s CR logo, signage font, and staff uniforms. The plush guest rooms are clean, modern, and colorful. All have air conditioning, in-room safes, and plasma TVs. Larger suites have multiple floors and marble furnishings. Some have small private pools with gardens and terraces. Amenities include 24-hour room service, medical service, butlers, dry cleaning, and airport transportation. There’s a gym, common pool, business center, and helicopter landing pad. There are eight high-end restaurants, coffee bar, and lounge. Kid-friendly, with babysitting services. Pet-friendly.
